Hydration & barrier

Snail mucin

also known as Snail secretion filtrate

Korea's cult hydrator — a glycoprotein-rich filtrate that plumps, soothes, and helps skin recover.

What it actually does

Snail secretion filtrate is a cocktail of glycoproteins, hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid, and peptides. In practice that means it holds water on the skin, supports the barrier's natural repair process, and lays down a slick, bouncy feel that makes everything you layer on top sit better. It's the closest thing K-Beauty has to a 'do-no-harm' active.

Who it's for

Dehydrated, post-procedure, or generally tired-looking skin. Sensitive types do well with it. If you're vegan, skip it — there's no synthetic equivalent that performs the same way.

How to use it

Use as an essence or first serum on damp skin, twice daily. The classic K-Beauty move is snail mucin → hydrating serum → moisturizer. Sourcing varies; reputable Korean brands collect it without harming the snails.
