Soothing

Madecassoside

The single most-active compound in centella, isolated — for serious calming without irritation.

What it actually does

Madecassoside is a purified triterpene from centella asiatica. Where 'cica' products use whole-plant extract, madecassoside formulas isolate the compound shown in studies to reduce inflammatory markers and accelerate barrier repair. The trade-off: it's more expensive to formulate, so it usually appears in serums and treatment creams rather than toners.

Who it's for

Reactive, post-procedure, or barrier-compromised skin where ordinary centella isn't quite enough. A good choice when you've over-exfoliated or your skin won't tolerate its usual routine.

How to use it

Layer a madecassoside serum or essence onto bare or toned skin, then seal with moisturizer. Use until the flare-up calms — it's not a daily-forever ingredient for most people, more of a rescue tool.
