What it is

Niacinamide is a stable, water-soluble form of vitamin B3. It's one of the most widely studied ingredients in cosmetic chemistry and turns up at 2–10% in serums, toners, and moisturizers across almost every K-Beauty range.

What it actually does

Niacinamide slows the transfer of pigment to the surface of your skin (which is why it gently fades dark spots over weeks, not days), supports the lipid layer that holds water in, and dials down the inflammation that makes redness look angry. At the 2–5% concentrations common in K-Beauty, it's one of the most well-studied multi-taskers in skincare — and one of the only actives that genuinely plays well with everything else in your routine.

Why K-beauty uses it

Korean brands treat niacinamide as a routine backbone, not a hero — you'll find it quietly stacked into essences, toners, and creams alongside centella or snail rather than sold as a standalone.

How to use it

Morning, evening, or both. Layer it after watery essences and before heavier creams. Safe to combine with vitamin C, retinoids, and acids — the old 'don't mix with vitamin C' rule was overblown.

The Plug verdict

If we could only keep one ingredient in a routine, this is it. Niacinamide does five things competently instead of one thing brilliantly, and it never fights with what you layer on top.
